Forgive me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. I just noticed this – then again, it kind of just happened! Paizo posted two issues of Dungeon (84 and 85) and two issues of Dragon (274 and 275), making them available to DriveThruRPG fans. I suspect some waters are being tested, so to speak, and this a very, very exciting prospect all around. These are releases that herald the advent of the 3rd Edition era, so some serious wayback machine coolness here.

Another cool adventure from Jan Sielicki (The Bridges we Burn), this one set up for any Cypher setting. Those that have played through Jan’s stuff have really enjoyed it, so anyone who’s a fan of the system should really give this a look. It’s a strong entry in what’s called the Cypher System Creator program at DriveThruRPG.

Descent into a mysterious crack in the ground and survive in an alien world beneath! This Cypher System Adventure comes from the author of “The Bridges we Burn – a Numenera Adventure” and is designed for Tier 2 characters. It takes about 3-5 hours to complete and can be easily adapted for any of the official Cypher System settings.

Discover an ancient, mysterious and gigantic machine, battle vicious foes and save-or doom an entire species. As always, the choices – and the consequences – are yours to live with.

Those who dared the Rift (and managed to tell about it) share:

“What happens below, stays below”

“Wow, this adventure was realllly weird. So I guess it was perfect for the game!”

“We… killed them all, didn’t we? And for what?” *another PC toys with a powerful artefact*

Requires the Cypher System Rulebook from Monte Cook Games.

Many of you know I am a member of The Royal Manticoran Navy, a club dedicated to celebrating the Honorverse (a rather excellent, long-running military sci-fi series by David Weber and other authors, featuring one of the foundational woman protagonists in the genre, Honor Harrington). I am, in fact, honored to be the Captain of the HMS Reliant, Denver’s own chapter of this global organization. One of the things I am most proud of is our commitment to (a) charity work and improving the world around us and (b) taking care of our own whenever we can.

One of our own, a young midshipman (in club terms) named Elija, is suffering with a rare form of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. He and his family could certainly use our help.

Elijah is 8 years old, he was diagnosed with and has been battling Ewings Sarcoma Cancer since May 2015. He has gone through so very much to even get to this point and even though we are extremely greatful for it we have found ourselves in an even deeper financial hole. Elijah needs a stem cell Transplant and it must be done out in Children’s Hospital Colorado. I his mom will be there with him 24/7 which will have costs in its own but unfortunately his dad will have to stay behind to work and keep up with our insurance that we so desperately need and our bills. He hopes to at least travel back and forth as much as possible to be there for our son in this crucial time, this will all take money we just do not have. So please we ask for any donations, everything helps and we truly appreciate it. We understand that not everyone can help financially but We also ask for your prayers, one day we believe Elijah will be Cancer Free!

You can learn more about Elijah at at his special Facebook page.

Thank you,

So I just got the following very cool message in my inbox from Spectrum Games:

“Buy the Cartoon Action Hour: Season 3 rulebook PDF and get all twelve of the currently released supplements for free! That’s right… we’re celebrating the 215th anniversary of Cartoon Action Hour by offering you the entire PDF collection for less than $15 as a bundle. Grab the Crunchy Frosted Sugar Cocoa Bombs! It’s time to dive all in for the Cartoon Action Hour!

PS – In Hexslinger, there’s a certain Fort Fannon, put in there by my friend Shane

Remember those bygone Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons spent in front of our television sets back in the ’80s? Remember how we watched the eternal struggle between the forces of good and evil unfold right before our young eyes as our heroes stopped at nothing to out the kibosh on the seemingly endless machinations of the villains? Remember how these wondrously cheesy shows drw us in and spoke to us on a personal level, all the while trying to sell us action figures?

We remember it too!

Cartoon Action Hour: Season 3 is the third edition of the game that was nominated for  “Best RPG” at the 2004 Origins Awards. The game faithfully and meticulously emulates the action-adventure cartoons of the 1980s, using “cartoon logic” as the basis for every aspect of the system. This is not just a universal game that just happens to be adorned with genre-appropriate art. Every single design decision was made with the purpose of bringing to life the retro-toons of yesteryear, right at your gaming table.

Everything you need to play Cartoon Action Hour is included in this full-color rulebook. Some of the features include:

Sleek and Exciting Game System: You roll a d12 and add one or two ratings to it. That’s the core of the system, making it extremely easy to jump right into the animated fray. Every nuance of the system (transformation, vehicles, playsets, etc.) utilize the same game mechanics as a whole.

Action Scenes: In Cartoon Action Hour, there is no “combat system”. In its place is the “action scene” system, which covers far more than just a slugfest or a laser-filled shootout. Violence is de-emphasized and players are rewarded for making indirect attacks of a less overt nature (“I shoot the tree branch, so that it falls on top of the enemy!”). Characters can be given Setback Tokens, representing anything from physical damage to confusion and everything in between.

Series Creation: The GM and the players work together to construct the series via the series creation system, which includes character creation. Speaking of which, creating characters has never been this easy in previous versions of the game, as the bookkeeping is now very minimal indeed.

Sample Series: The book includes eight series seeds and one more detailed sample series.

26-Page Action Scene Example: This ultra-detailed example of an action scene answers any question you care to ask.

Preface by Flint Dille: The legendary cartoon writer offers up an insightful preface that discusses the way cartoons were created in the 1980s.

The days of Full Campaign In Hand are back in force, as more and more Game Masters find they appreciate a well-crafted pre-loaded campaign to dive into and run for their groups. I predict this is a trend we will see more and more of, including with core game releases. Catalyst bets heavy on the idea with this one for Shadowrun – doubling down on their Sixth World Tarot to craft some serious long-term storytelling and adventure around specific images.

No Longer Hidden

The Bastard, upright. A man in clown makeup stands in a broken skyraker window over another man on the verge of a long plummet. Near the clown’s hand, a white rose. Opportunity, adventure, but also mania and frenzy. 404, upright. A woman crouches on the edge of a rooftop, holding a white rose. In the distance is the image of a woman in a red dress. Destruction, failure, collapse. Queen of coins. A woman in a red dress, lounging amidst luxury. She has material wealth but emptiness of soul. Upright, she is opulence, magnificent. Inverse is suspense, fear.

Opportunity and adventure abounds. Destruction and failure loom. Will the result be magnificence—or fear?

Book of the Lost takes the intricate art of the Sixth World Tarot and turns it into stories and campaigns for Shadowrun players. Full of plot hooks and adventure seeds, this book is a treasure trove of ideas, mysteries, and enigmas that can make memorable games. Open it and explore knowledge that had been lost but is now, here, rediscovered. And waiting for you.

Book of the Lost is for use with Shadowrun, Fifth Edition, and can easily be used with Shadowrun: Anarchy with minor NPC adjustments.

I’ve a lot of great Kickstarters I want to make sure you know about, so here we go!

Ghosts, Ghouls, and Golems is a guide to the darkness-dwelling creatures of folklore and myth for roleplaying games.

Until the invention of reliable and effective forms of artificial lighting, the setting sun indicated the end of man’s control of the world around him. With no sun, he couldn’t see, and when denied sight man was virtually helpless in the dark. It didn’t help matters that there were animals who could virtually see in the dark and moved about with ease in the middle of the night. So, man assigned magical powers to creatures able to do what he couldn’t. With time, he even created new denizens of the supernatural from his imagination and religious beliefs.

Ghosts, Ghouls, and Golems is a roleplaying game guide to these darkness-dwelling creatures of folklore and myth for Hero System, Savage Worlds, and Mutants & Masterminds. Emphasis has been placed on presenting these creatures as close to their traditional descriptions as possible – although a few “cinematic,” Hollywood-inspired versions of some of the more popular entries are included. In this book you will find information on vampires, lycanthropes, ghosts, ghouls, wights, and zombies, as well as more obscure creatures like the old hag and the witiko. There are dozens of “monster” sheets, each representing a basic creature template you can further customize as desired. Finally, there are a number of sheets for such infamous beings as Dracula, Jack the Ripper, and the Beast of Le Gévaudan.

Mythic is a setting for the Savage Worlds RPG system based on the myths and legends of ancient Earth.

Mythic: Ennam & Saduri is an expansion book for the Mythic campaign setting for the Savage Worlds roleplaying game, which takes several cultures and mythologies from real world Earth and places them all together in a new and unique world. The Mythic setting book includes three cultures and mythologies: Pridith, based on the Celts; Illosia, based on the Greeks; and Niserri, based on the Egyptians. Mythic: Ennam & Saduri adds two new cultures and mythologies: Ennam, based on Mesopotamia; and Siduri, based on Vedic India.

This supplemental book includes new character creation information for creating characters from the new Saduri and Ennam cultures, as well as rules for summoning and binding the numerous demonic entities that plague both of these civilizations. Each culture is described in detail, including descriptions of some of the major deities from each culture’s pantheon. Finally, Eastern Realms contains a bestiary that includes stats and descriptions for 25 creatures pulled from Mesopotamian and Vedic Indian mythology.

A character sheet, one-sheet adventures, pantheon family trees, and other goodies, are all currently available as free downloads on the Chimera Press website: www.chimerapress.com

Esper Genesis is a versatile science fiction RPG and setting that uses the 5th edition rules of the world’s greatest roleplaying game.

Galaxies at war, high-tech gadgets and weapons, robots, aliens, starfighters, space cruisers, and ancient machines with the power to shape reality – All of these and more make up the core of Esper Genesis. Brace yourself for high adventure in hyperspace as you strive to make your mark within the great expanse!

Esper Genesis is a science-fiction tabletop roleplaying game powered by the 5th Edition rules engine and inspired by sci-fi greats such as Star Wars, Mass Effect, Phantasy Star, and Ghost in the Shell. Taking on the role of a galactic hero, you can forge your destiny within a universe of advanced technologies and hidden mysteries. Beyond just a bunch of mechanics, Esper Genesis is a powerhouse of awesome sci-fi that’s fully compatible and interchangeable with any official 5E product.

Heroic Sci-fi Roleplaying is the heart of this game. With a universe that’s immersive from beginning to end, every one of your characters is already part of a fantastic setting you can use to build your own cool sci-fi legend.

Whether you’re a Deadlands: Reloaded fan (playing it Savage Worlds style), or an aficionado of Deadlands Classic, the “Night Train,” John Goff, has something very special for you with this adventure. Statted for both, this is one of the many great adventures written by the man who knows the Weird West very well.

In the Weird West, not all tracks show up on a map, and not all trains are scheduled. During the Great Rail Wars, an unexpected whistle in the night usually meant bad news, and for Paradise, Idaho, it still does. An unscheduled train is rolling into the station, it’s bringing Hell with it–just maybe not the one you’d expect given the author of this nightmare, John “Night Train” Goff.

Slap on your six-guns and help the residents of a peaceful mining town square off against a powerful foe from Deadlands’ future…and past!

This adventure requires the Deadlands Classic game system to play OR Deadlands Reloaded—it’s dual statted for both!

Gaming for kids is a thing I’ve been very proud to see (and be a part of) building over the last few years. Monte Cook Games did a great job breaking even more new ground in this field with their charming and well-crafted No Thank You, Evil! Fans of this line will be grateful for this new expansion, a deck-driven system to help those running the game (including young, burgeoning new Game Masters) pull together great stories for their friends and loved ones. More brilliant work from the extraordinary Shanna Germain.

Create fantastic, whimsical adventures for your No Thank You, Evil! game

Someone stole all the robot waiters from The Cake Is a Pie, a famous cake and pizza restaurant. Clues lead to an alien factory where everyone looks the same. Can the players overcome obstacles and hazards, confront Joe the Giant, and solve the mystery to return the robot waiters?

Journey into Storia in adventures of your own design! Combine an engaging STORY card with one or more cool PLACE and PERSON cards to outline your quest. Then give your adventure a surprising TWIST, and maybe some fun and useful STUFF. There are even maps and handouts! Pick cards, draw them at random or mix and match. Create a great story with all the details you need—in minutes!

This expansion requires the No Thank You, Evil! game to play.

My friend Ian Liddle has another great game idea going, an entire space sector you can drop into any Savage Worlds science-fiction campaign, or sent your entire campaign within. While it’s certain you need the core rules and the Science Fiction Companion, I am betting you’d get a lot of utility out of combining this with the Last Parsec stuff as well.

A whole detailed sector for use with Savage Worlds and the Science Fiction Companion. Includes a full Plot Point Campaign.

Sector Asgard Kappa. Containing thirty six inhabitable planets with a wide variety of cultures, aliens and secrets. It is ripe for exploration and adventure!

You will need both the Savage Worlds Explorers Edition and the Savage Worlds Science Fiction Companion to use this book. The book is expected to be around 100-120 pages when completed.

All thirty six worlds in the Asgard Kappa sector will be detailed in the final product, however here we present three of those on offer. Full world data in the Savage Worlds Science Fiction Companion format will be provided in the final product, as well as details of important creatures and NPCs.

Larraintzar is located in the Ingunn system. Living under a police state, its inhabitants cluster together for safety inside its grey housing blocks, which are found among the unique crystal formations which make up a lot of the planet’s bizarre geology. These formations are what cause the ‘shard storms’ which, when triggered by seismic activity can strip the flesh from the bones of a man in seconds. It does, however have great natural beauty and has a dedicated visitors centre for off-world visitors.

Bergljot is most notable for its vast spaceyard, which is itself a living alien relic – the out of commission ships that reside there are used as food by the ancient relic. The inhabitants follow rigid religious sanctions which honor that relic

Manderiaga is a desert world, whose colonists live in fortified settlements to protect themselves both from the sandstorms, dangerous local predators and the vastly superior numbers of the native alien race.

These are of course only samples of the interesting places we have in store for you in this book.

The Campaign

The characters are hired to investigate the activities of a group known as the Brotherhood of Logic and, once their evil plot is uncovered it becomes a race against time to stop them from succeeding and plunging the whole sector into all out war! This will be a Plot Point Campaign of fifteen adventures, with story seeds to take the characters on even more adventures in-between the scripted parts of the campaign.
