We are bringing our classic divine sourcebook The Book of the Righteous back for Fifth Edition as a beautiful, full color hardback.

Return of a Classic

In 2002 Green Ronin published The Book of the Righteous, a massive tome for the Third Edition rules describing an entire pantheon of gods, as well as their churches, worshipers, and defenders. It was a big hit for us and became one of the most critically-acclaimed books of the d20 era. Now we are bringing it back for the Fifth Edition rules as a beautiful, full-color hardback book. Even better, the new rules material will be designed by Robert J. Schwalb, one of the designers of Fifth Edition!

Update: D&D Fifth Edition and Lords of Waterdeep designer Rodney Thompson has also joined the design team!

So what is The Book of the Righteous? Simply put, one of the most comprehensive pantheons ever seen in roleplaying games. It presents more than 20 pick-up-and-play churches corresponding to gods that feature in most fantasy campaigns (god of war, god of justice, etc.). Each church features lavish detail, including in-depth information on its clerics, holy orders, dogma, prayers, and rituals. These churches can be used in any campaign to bring a whole new level of detail to the religious characters. Plus, for those who don’t have a complete cosmology in their setting, the Book of the Righteous provides a comprehensive mythology that unifies all of the gods in the book. That mythology, and its corresponding cosmology, is not tied to an existing campaign setting, making it as portable and useful as our long running Freeport series. If you want in-depth religions for your campaign, The Book of the Righteous is for you.

Our roleplaying game community content programs began when we launched in association with Wizards of the Coast to allow D&D fans to create their own fifth edition titles and offer them for sale to other D&D fans. Then we launched programs with Margaret Weis Productions, Monte Cook Games, and Mongoose Publishing. We’ll be adding programs for more games soon.

“A good friend of mine, Amber, needs help paying rent and groceries this summer. She’s taking a full load of classes, but there’s no student loans for summer, of course. And she can’t work or she loses her medicaid, even if anything was hiring, which nothing is. She had a gofundme for last summer, having faced the same problem then. It never made much, but is still up.”

Hi! I’m Amber. You’ve probably seen me before here on GoFundMe, but I’m asking for help again.  

I just graduated from community college, but I have one last class to take this summer, which came out of my pocket.  I also have the cost for a book, which is more than I can afford right now.  I also have an enrollment fee from the school I will be  attending this fall that isn’t covered by my financial aid.  

I’m just asking for help to cover my summer expenses. I am unable to find a job right at this time, and I’m dealing with some lingering health issues that make working and going to school together difficult.  I do live with my mother, helping her, but her disability income is barely enough to cover herself and her bills, let alone help me at all.

About This Project

After years of hard work, we’ve created a supplementary system for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game that allows anyone to quickly and easily create balanced monsters from the ground up! While rigorously play-testing the system, we’ve produced hundreds of new monsters inspired by all the Bestiary classics and are excited to share both the system and our creations with our fans!

The book and 230 monsters are already written and nearly ready to publish, but we want to see this project given the finishing touches it deserves. That means paying for beautiful original artwork, careful editing, and expanded content galore. We can’t do that without your help!

Balanced monster creation can be a challenging and convoluted process for even experienced designers. In the theme of the popular Rogue Genius GamesTalented series, the Talented Bestiary presents new rules for monster construction—taking it out of the realm of guess and check, and making every monster easily customizable. The simple streamlined process allows virtually anyone to produce full monster stat-blocks completely compatible with the Pathfinder system.

 The Talented Bestiary divorces creature type from basic statistics, so you can make a barbaric bloodthirsty fey as easily as an arcane spellcasting ooze. In addition, we’ve broken down every universal monster ability and unique monster ability found in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary to create an intuitive point-buy system based on challenge rating. With this system, you can quickly and easily create any monster you dream of; from Fine-size CR ½ to a Colossal-sized CR 34. 

“I once read a piece of advice that completely altered how I run games. It was in a horror setting, and the idea was simple. Players are a jaded lot that have seen it all. The idea of fighting a troll isn’t scary anymore. As soon as the word troll comes out of your mouth, they roll their eyes and ask who has fire and acid handy. The same goes for hundreds of other monsters from aboleths to yeti. So, do you just throw them away and always look for the next book? 

 Of course not!

 If you rebrand the troll, give it a different description and appearance, you can use the exact same statistics. Don’t say “troll”; say “it’s a hulking reptile monster with bloody saliva oozing from a gaping maw”. The players are now confronted with something completely new, to them. They have no idea that behind the screen you are rolling for a troll. When their weapons can’t kill the beast, they have to rediscover the troll’s weakness all over again. They get the thrill, and the fear, of the unknown. They experience the feeling they had the first time they ever fought a troll. 

You could even take it a step further! Instead of fire and acid, the mysterious beast can only be killed by cold and electricity. Or as an alternative to rending with claws, it has the ability to swallow whole. Replace scent with tremorsense and it senses vibrations in the water. Throw a template on there! A red half-dragon troll is pretty terrifying. Now we have a completely new monster slapped onto the troll chassis. And the best part is, no one has to know! A monster is a tool used to tell your story. You should never feel limited by the creatures you have at your disposal or be required to scour through multiple source books to find the perfect stat-block. Antagonists should be as mutable and custom-crafted as player characters. If you don’t like something about a monster, you should be able to change it. If you have an amazing idea for a creature, it should only take a few minutes to throw something together from scratch.

So this has been popping up in gamer social media and elsewhere, and a few folks have brought it directly to my attention. By all accounts, it’s a wildly popular retroclone of the original D&D rules, successfully Kickstarted and now available for dirt cheap as a PDF.

What do you think of The Black Hack?

The Black Hack is a super-streamlined roleplaying game that uses the Original 1970s Fantasy Roleplaying Game as a base, and could well be the most straightforward modern OSR compatible clone available. If speed of play and character creation, compatibility, and simple – yet elegant rules are what you yearn for. Look no further!

The Black Hack is a fast playing game and the rules can be picked up in minutes. The full rules fit in a single 20 page A5 book!

You wouldn’t think a company with the name of Cheapass would produce something this elegant and inspiring, and yet… James Ernest is a master game designer, and he’s teamed up with the equally talented Patrick Rothfuss to craft this game, based on its appearance in Rothfuss’ A Wise Man’s Fear.

Tak is a new 2-player strategy game invented by James Ernest and Patrick Rothfuss. It was introduced in Patrick Rothfuss’ book The Wise Man’s Fear, Day 2 of the Kingkiller Chronicle. 

Tak is a pure abstract game in the same family as chess, go, and mancala. Our goal was to design a new game with a sense of history; a beautiful game with simple rules and deep strategy. And we can’t wait to share it with you!

Tak uses a square board, which can be any size from 3×3 up to 8×8, but the most common sizes are 5×5 and 6×6 (the “Tavern” and “Classic” games).

Each player has several matching pieces, or “stones,” and one special piece called the “Capstone.” The Capstone can be any shape, and the other pieces should be simple, stackable pieces in a matching style.

The board starts empty, and the goal is to build a road (a connected string of your pieces) connecting opposite sides of the board.

On each turn, you will either place a piece in an empty space, or move a stack that you control. Stacks must move in a straight line, dropping pieces as they go, and possibly covering other pieces along the way.

You can play a piece upright. This piece is called a “standing stone,” or “wall.” It can’t be part of a road, but other pieces can’t stack on top of it. 

The Capstone is your power piece. It can be part of a road, it can’t be stacked on, and it can also flatten standing stones.

First off, sorry the late posting; having an active Kickstarter, especially this one, seriously eats up your life!

Second, Precis Intermedia is one of those companies that rolls out great stuff, but you might miss it due to other companies getting all the press. Just check out the opening comments from fans, though, and you will see a great game that inspires. The theme is something recently familiar to me, as well. 😉

In short, EarthAD 2 is fast, ready-to-use, and adaptable. You don’t have to learn a complicated system, refer to scores of tables, or spend all day creating characters. The basic rules require very little study, and the advanced rules are not much more difficult to pick up. You can either create custom characters for the game or dive right in with any of the included templates. The game is designed to be light; it has a small footprint and extremely low price tag – it’s not overloaded with tons of rules or an excess of information you just won’t need. And if you don’t want to use the setting, the rules are flexible enough to handle your own ideas or that of your favorite movie, television program, comic, or novel.

Chuck went into the hospital for emergency surgery on Saturday morning. He is currently in recovery and he needs our help to raise the money necessary to aid in his long term physical therapy. Chuck is not only the layout director for Frog God Games, he is also a father, Gulf War Veteran, gamer, and a genuinely good person. Please help in what ever way you can, but especially by sharing this link throughout the RPG community:

Another one of our own in need, friends.

It is with great worry and sadness that I share the news that our friend and our art/layout director at Frog God Games is in surgery today to remove all or part of his foot as a result of complications from diabetes.

Chuck is a Gulf War veteran who lives outside of Tampa FL. The Veterans Administration hospital in Tampa is his only health insurance.  He currently lives over an hour from this hospital. He has no options for care closer to his home.

When he gets out of the hospital, he will urgently need personal help (care and food), transportation to and from physical therapy, and income to support him until he is able to work again.  It’s possible he may not be able to function in his current living space, so he will need financial help obtaining a handicapped accessible apartment and moving. 

He is scared and alone right now.  We hope everyone in the RPG community reaches out to him with love and supports this appeal. Money won’t cure his diabetes or get his foot back, but it could keep him in a home and cared for during rehabilitation from the amputation.
